Town to begin work on walk/bike lane on West Street
Warwick The long-talked about walking lane that will connect the Village of Warwick with the high school/middle school complex is getting closer to actually happening. The Town Board recently went out to bid for the project which will construct a 1,700-foot concrete pavement lane from the village line on West Street to the corner of County Route 1. Originally, the town planned to build a sidewalk. Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton said they decided instead to widen the shoulder about five feet and imprint it, similar to how some of the crosswalks are imprinted in the village. This will clearly delineate it from the road but still allow crews to plow it in winter. Pelton Crossing, a development just off West Street, made a $60,000 donation to build the walkway, which will line up with the sidewalk that was installed on the other side of County Route 1 near the medical building. The project will be built this summer, Sweeton said.
