Town of Warwick okays $14.4 million budget
Special districts will cost $11.6 million Warwick - The Town Board has put in place a $14.4 million budget for 2006, as well as an $11.6 million special districts budget. What that means to taxpayers is this: Village residents will get a 3.99 percent decrease in their taxes, paying $4.63 per $1,000 of assessed value. Town residents outside of the villages will see a 5.06 percent increase over last year’s taxes, paying $13.55 per $1,000 of assessed value. That is up 65 cents per $1,000. A typical village homeowner will pay about $231.50 in town taxes. Homeowners outside of the three villages will pay about $677.50 in town taxes. The Town Board used nearly $2.2 million from the town’s surplus, according to Supervisor Michael Sweeton, in an effort to lessen the burden of property taxes on residents. Health benefits, retirement funding and rising energy prices were the main catalysts for the increase in this year’s budget.
