Town of Warwick budget up

    Warwick — It’s budget time. The town has proposed a $15.75 million budget, as well as a $9 million budget for special districts. Town residents outside of the villages would pay $14.20 per $1,000 of assessed value if the budget is passed. That is up 65 cents more than last year’s rate or 4.78 percent. Village residents within the town would see an increase of 4.73 percent over last year’s rate, which goes up 22 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to $4.85. A home assessed at $50,000 in the village would pay $243 in town taxes in 2007, up $10.96 over last year. A home assessed at $50,000 in the town outside of the villages would pay $710 for the year. That is $32.42 more than last year. Last year’s budget was $14.4 million. Special districts cost their residents $11.6 million. The town held a public hearing Thursday night on the preliminary budget, which is available for review at the Town Hall as well as the three local libraries.
