Warwick — Thank you, Mr. Supervisor. Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton gave the Village of Warwick a check for $20,000 Tuesday night, money that will go toward the refurbished basketball court at Stanley-Deming Park. Village Trustee Eileen Patterson said the village went to the town during the town’s budget time last fall, requesting funds for the basketball court, which would be undergoing a renovation. New poles, backboards and nets were ordered and the surface was redone. The new equipment will be installed before spring. The total cost of the renovation was $45,000. Sweeton said this is part of the relationship between the town and the three villages, and the funds are taken from the town’s parkland fees. “Just as village residents come to town parks, we recognize that town residents go to village parks,” said Sweeton. “We’ve always had a relationship with the villages. We fund recreation in all three villages. This is capital money we collect through parkland fees.” Last year, the town contributed funds to put lights at Lions Field in Greenwood Lake. Money also is put aside for the Village of Florida’s project to build tennis courts. That project has been put on hold, but Sweeton said the money is there. “We contribute 55 percent of the money to the summer program,” said Sweeton, referring to the Village of Warwick summer recreation program, and the town fully funds the Pine Island recreation program.
