Town closes Hathorn Road

Warwick - The Town of Warwick has closed the stone and mortar bridge in front of Chateau Hathorn on Hathorn Road. Department of Public Works Superintendent Jeff Feagles said his department has been keeping an eye on the bridge for a while now, noticing deterioration. The town’s engineer went out to look at it and determined it is not safe and needs to be repaired. The road is often used as a shortcut to avoid the intersection of County Route 1 and Route 94. Now, with a traffic light installed this fall, more drivers are using this street to avoid the light. Feagles estimated that the bridge will be closed between four and six months while the town applies for a grant to restore it. The bridge is more than 100 years old. Don’t fret, fine diners: Hathorn Road is open from County Route 1 to the Chateau Hathorn.
