Greenwood Lake - It might serve as a textbook example of how government should work. This Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. the public is invited to the rededication of the newly renovated town beach at the end of Windermere Avenue in Greenwood Lake. In recognition of his 40 years of public service and contributions to Warwick, the beach also will be renamed the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park. Morahan, the state senator, is expected to be present for the short ceremony. Refreshments will be served and there will be a musical performance by “The Magic Touch” from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Weather permitting, the performance will also offer everyone an opportunity to fully experience the picturesque setting of the new stage, as the performers, with Greenwood Lake as their backdrop, face the audience, relaxing on the natural grass amphitheater. “This was a win-win project,” said Warwick Town Councilman Leonard De Buck, who serves as liaison for the physical development and upkeep of parks. “Although the Town of Warwick Department of Public Works had to haul fill to the site, almost everything else was accomplished through the generosity of donors and volunteers. And the materials were purchased with a county grant.” As an example, he mentioned that Warwick resident John Redmond volunteered to design and supervise the construction of the new stage. De Buck Sod Farm provided new sod for the natural amphitheater and many local residents donated their talents, time and labor. Warwick developer Jonah Mandelbaum purchased the park’s flagpole. One of the most important pro bono contributions was that of Tim Maldonado, chairman of the Architectural Department of the New York City College of Technology. Under his supervision and as a class project, the student architects developed plans for the park’s overall improvement and future construction on the site of a multipurpose community building. “The students’ designs and the models they built may have saved us $100,000,” said De Buck.
