The Pine Island Farmers Market celebrates first anniversary next Saturday

    Pine Island — The Pine Island Farmers Market celebrates its first anniversary on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the main barn at the W. Rogowski Farm located at 329 Glenwood Road in Pine Island. In addition to its vendors, the market also will offer: Rachel Bertoni Designs of Sugar Loaf will demonstrate jewelry-making, creating custom pieces on site. Candy Apple Shoppe of Glenwood, N.J., will feature an array of handmade candied apples and chocolates. Chef and author Lukas Volger will be signing his new cookbook, “Vegetarian Entrees That Won’t Leave You Hungry,” which Publishers Weekly praised: “The beauty of Volger’s approach lies in its simplicity, creativity and portability.” From 10 a.m. to noon, Volger also will provide a cooking demonstration and tasting from the book. Edge of Knife will provide knife-sharpening services and sales - bring in your knives to be sharpened. Winslow Therapeutic Center will offer face painting, with proceeds supporting its work. Local musician Dan Brother returns to perform his own brand of soulful blues from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market also has a “Farmer’s Market Roulette” - a chance to win products from its vendors and sponsors. Remaining market dates in 2012 are Feb. 25 and March 31 - the last Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., each one featuring chef demonstrations, live music, activities and a made to order breakfast in the barn kitchen. This year’s sponsors include Bertoni Designs, Eddie’s Roadhouse, Fetch Bar & Grill, Harvest Restaurant, Pine Island Wine & Liquor and the W. Rogowski Farm.
