The Center of Light to open at Amity Church

A center for meditation and spiritual study to offer ancient teachings WARWICK A new center for meditation and spiritual study offering spiritual classes and seminars, Sunday services, daily meditation and communion, spiritual community and movie nights is opening at the Amity Church in Warwick for people of all faiths. A grand opening is scheduled on Sunday, March 6, at 4 p.m. Officials said the Center of Light brings the ancient teachings of Christian mysticism to these modern times. Mysticism refers to “the practice of knowing the reality of God through direct experience.” In Buddhism, mysticism is called Zen; in Islam it is Sufism; in Hinduism, contemplative Yoga; in Judaism, Kabala; and in Christianity it is called Christian mysticism. Some famous mystics have been St. Francis of Assisi, St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, Thich Nhat Hanh, Rumi and Paramahansa Yogananda. According to officials, “all of them taught that God was inside and that God’s love and presence could be felt and experienced by everyone.” The Center is run by the Rev. Monica Corvini and the Rev. David Corvini. For more information, visit www.NewYork.CentersOfLight.org or call 884-1709.
