Warwick - Albert Wisner Public Library hosted a volunteer and donor recognition open house on Sunday, May 21, to honor library “champions” for there gifts of time and treasure. More than 250 individuals were invited and all will receive a New York State Assembly Certificate of Merit provided by the office of Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt. Library trustee Margaret Bogdanski also presented the assemblywoman with a plaque for her efforts at the state level to fund the planning for a new library, the Warwick Children’s Book Festival and for supporting this year’s $21 million increase in state aid for libraries throughout the state. Eagle Scout candidate John Kraai was presented with a commendation for his project which provided six bookcases for the Children’s Room. The level of Eagle requires a project which will benefit a community and show leadership. Through the efforts and hard work of Kraai and Troop 152 of Chester, these bookcases were completed in just six weekends. Kraai is a senior patrol leader of troop 152 and a senior a Warwick Valley High School. In the fall he will be attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, majoring in photography and beginning to learn Japanese for his future plans. Throughout the afternoon reception the “Strolling Strings” played a wonderful repertoire of old favorites and modern pop. This musical group is comprised of students from Warwick Valley Middle School under the direction of Middle School teachers Christy Halligan and Elissa Jones Leonard.
