That Old Black Magic' materializes April 26 at Warwick Valley Winery
Warwick - Dick Wells and the Philip Jones Quintet will make their third appearance on Thursday evening, April 26, in the new Pané Restaurant at the Warwick Valley Winery. Pané Bakery Café co-owner and chef Michael DiMartino, who also owns the Landmark Inn, and his partner, Katherine Grizzanti, are planning a full-course menu served with local wines produced at the Warwick Valley Winery. The restaurant has recently been renovated to increase its seating capacity from 60 to 100. Fans of Dick Wells and the Philip Jones Quintet should welcome the extra seating since previous shows have a history of selling out early. Jones, recording artist, well-known tenor and bass trombonist, is an 18-year veteran of the Grammy winning “Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass” orchestra. And as a performer, he has worked with Bing Crosby, Elves Presley, Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Willie Nelson as well as dozens of groups and orchestras. Jones has also recorded on hundreds of top label releases in his role as a studio musician. Wells, who always manages to arrive at each performance with a fresh repertoire, plans to pay tribute to writer Johnny Mercer with some of his most famous songs such as “That Old Black Magic,” a song Wells sang with the Harry James Band in Las Vegas. Wells, who is well-known locally from his radio programs on Warwick/Florida station WTBQ (1110 AM), is a longtime professional singer who has performed on Las Vegas stages with legendary entertainers like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. For the April 26 performance, the Café will open for dinner at 7 p.m. Showtime will be at 8:30 p.m. For reservations, call the Warwick Winery at 258-4858 or ask for DiMartino at The Landmark, 986-5444.
