Tax grievance day is Feb. 19
Warwick Just about everyone thinks they are paying too much in taxes. But if you do some homework and come to the conclusion that your assessment for village taxes is indeed higher than it should be, your day is coming. The village is holding its annual tax grievance day on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Village Hall. The village and town assessor, Richard Hubner, as well as Mayor Michael Newhard and the village trustees will be on hand to hear any grievances. First, though, property owners should do some legwork. The tentative assessment role is currently available in the Village Clerk’s office for review. This lists the assessments for all properties in the village. If your assessment is drastically higher than similar homes in the area, you probably have a point and should come state your case. The process is similar to coming before a judge be well prepared and come with back-up. All decisions will be made before the final assessment role is prepared, which is usually by the end of March. Those challenging the assessments will be notified of the assessor’s decision.
