Take a Kid Fishing Day' scheduled for May 6
Warwick - The Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club will hold its annual “Take a Kid Fishing Day” for children living in the Town of Warwick on Saturday, May 6, at the Baird Farm on Baird’s Lane between 9:30 a.m. and noon. On the morning of the event, the Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club will stock approximately 500 trout for the benefit of the children. This event, for youngsters between the ages of 5 and 14, is provided for children who do not have access to a stream. The program is not a contest, and it’s been the club’s practice to award a prize to each participating child, regardless of whether the child has caught a fish. These prizes have included fishing rod and reel combos, tackle boxes, lures and other outdoor recreation items not necessarily related to fishing. According to the organizers, attendance has grown dramatically in recent years due to the growth of the community as well the support area merchants and retailers have shown. Last year, more than 200 youngsters participated. The club again is seeking that assistance, either through a monetary donation or contribution related to fishing or the outdoors in general. All contributions will be used exclusively for the “Take a Kid Fishing Day” program, either as prizes or to cover expenses. For more information, contact Jerry Debold at 986-5001.
