Swimming star-scholar named Warwick High athlete of the week

Warwick - Jean Murphy has been named the Warwick High School Student Athlete of the Week sponsored by Allstate Insurance Bill Garcia Agency located in Warwick. The senior swim star recorded the fifth best time in the state last year in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:06:86). Jean is the reigning Section Nine Breast Stroke Champion and has been named one of the Warwick girls varsity swim team captains for 2007. Last year Jean teamed up with Casey Abribat, Amelia Lupinetti and Jenna Marrione to form the first girls’ relay team to make the state meet in many years. She has opened the 2007 swim season with two first-place finishes in the breast stroke against Monroe and Kingston. In addition to being an excellent swimmer Jean excels in the classroom maintaining a 90.8 grade point average and has taken two advanced courses this year (AP English and AP Psychology) which will transfer for college credit. Jean is a full-time swimmer, and when not competing for the school she swims for the Aqua Gems. She names Jean Rogers as her most inspiring teacher (freshman English) and plans to attend either Ithaca College or Loyola Marymount next fall. Jean Murphy is the daughter of Mary and Mark Murphy of Sugar Loaf. Her sister, Lauren, is a sophomore in the high school.
