DeAngelo tops Farina in justice race Warwick — It’s four more years for Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton. Sweeton, who has held the office for six years, won handily Tuesday, earning more than twice the number of votes as his Democratic challenger, Penny Steyer. “It is very gratifying to see the numbers,” said Sweeton the day after his win. “It demonstrates that if you stay positive and send a good message, it still wins. I’ve never tried to be negative. I believe you have to be positive if you want to accomplish things.” Sweeton is a Republican and the co-owner of TechniGrowers Greenhouses. He ran on his record of a more streamlined government, expanded transportation services and recreation facilities, and the town’s zoning and open space programs. Steyer, a member of the town’s Architectural Review Board who was an executive with a Fortune 500 company as well as the owner of Penra Liquors in the Village of Warwick, criticized Sweeton for the town’s current zoning. She focused on expanding clean, commercial development to offset taxes. The town has appointed a committee to review the zoning and make recommendations, and Sweeton said he has file folders filled with suggestions. “Our zoning is pretty good,” said Sweeton, noting that it has been used as a model in other towns in the state. “Their premise is that our zoning is bad and broken. It’s not perfect. It can be better. But it came from lots of people over many years of input. We’ll work on it.” In the race for town justice, Greenwood Lake Village Justice Nancy Brenner DeAngelo, a Republican, defeated Village of Warwick Justice Richard Farina, the Democrat. DeAngelo will take over from Judge Daniel Coleman, who is retiring after 35 years on the bench. Councilmen Leonard DeBuck and James Gerstner, Republicans, ran unopposed for their seats on the Town Board. (Vote tallies appear on page 6.)
