SUNY Orange expands ESL program
Middletown Orange County Community College’s department of Continuing and Professional Education has hired Debra Horowitz as its new English as a Second Language coordinator. An experienced ESL educator, Horowitz has a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish, a master of arts degree in bilingual education and a master of business administration degree. Her teaching career, spanning 17 years, has been devoted to creating programs to meet the needs of non-English speaking populations. The program is for any adult from any language background who wants to learn to speak English, and community outreach is important. Horowitz intends to work with school districts, administrators, teachers and other bilingual educators to inform parents and any other groups who might benefit from the SUNY Orange programs. The program provides all levels of instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing everyday English, as well as for professional and academic success. For more information, call 341-4593.
