Sundaes' for Simone

Warwick - This is one of those feel-good stories that happens when a neighborhood comes together for a good cause. And it begins with Lora McDonald who wrote an essay explaining why her neighborhood - The Ridge at Wickham Lake - deserved to win enough ice cream for 100 people as part of Edy’s Ice Cream Neighborhood Salute. And win they did. But the mood in the neighborhood has been tempered since June when word came that three-year-old Simone Schultz was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. McDonald and others decided that the best way to celebrate the Neighborhood Salute was to use the event as a fund raiser to help Simone and her family. When she told Edy’s Ice Cream what her plans where, company officials doubled the prize - enough ice for 200 people. “Then, without any prompting, they sent a beautiful Day-at-the Spa gift basket for us to raffle,” she wrote in an e-mail. “Additionally, ShopRite of Warwick has been kind enough to house all of our ice cream until Sunday and went even further by providing all of the ice cream topping for ‘Sundaes for Simone.’” “Sundaes for Simone” was held this past Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Camelot Drive cul-de-sac. And all the donations collected at the Neighborhood Ice Cream party will benefit the Schultz family.
