Students learn to tumble along at St. Stephens

Warwick Karen Pinkham, the cheer director at Sports, Fitness & Fun in Florida, recently taught a beginner tumble class to the kindergarten class at St. Stephens in Warwick. The class introduced tumbling as a sport to many of the students. “Tumbling is a great way to introduce children to gymnastics and physical fitness,” explained Pinkham. “Every day, we read in the newspapers that our kids are not fit, and spend too much time playing video games. Tumbling gives children a chance to see how much fun gymnastics can be, and to get some great exercise at the same time.” Pinkham is the volunteer coach for the St. Stephens Junior Varsity Cheer team, which competed on Saturday, March 11, for a second Degree of Excellence in the Orange County Parochial School League Championship at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh. Pinkham has been with Sports Fitness & Fun since 2000 as cheer director, certified fitness instructor and certified personal trainer. The health club offers group classes for all ages, exercise equipment, personal training, Pilates instruction, the largest gymnastics training facility in the area, competitive cheer programs, martial arts and taekwondo instruction, physical therapy, a pro shop, an indoor playground, birthday parties, and refreshments at the café.
