WARWICK - In order to improve the quality of respiratory health care, St. Anthony Community Hospital recently added a Sensormedics Vmax Encore state-of-the-art pulmonary function testing device for its Respiratory Care Unit. Vmax Encore Sensormedics is the world’s leader in pulmonary function measurements. Doctor can learn more about a patient’s lungs and lung function by prescribing a series of tests called pulmonary function testing. These tests can tell the doctor about quantity of air a patient breathes with each breath, how efficiently air moves in and out of the lungs and how well lungs deliver oxygen to the bloodstream. The tests can diagnose lung diseases and measure the severity of lung problems. One way to measure lung volume is with a test called plethysmography. In this test, the patient sits inside a cubicle that looks like a phone booth and breathes in and out through a special tube attached to a computerized measuring device. According to Larry Kacmarcik, the hospital’s director of respiratory care, the Vmax Encore PFT technology provides the accurate, quality data. “Even for patients with low lung volume,” he said, “the Vmax Encore offers maximum accuracy and precision.” For more information on services provided by St. Anthony Community Hospital, visit its Web site at www.StAnthonyCommunityHosp.org.
