Compelled by the escalation in violence in the Middle East last week, Jude Roche held vigil with neighbors Susie Stage, Mary Makofske and Alice McMechen outside the farmer’s market on south street, Sunday, July 23. The group represented the Warwick chapter of Women in Black, which has been holding vigils most weeks since it formed before the war in Iraq in the fall of 2002. Women in Black is a decades-old movement with chapters in many countries. “We stand in witness to the suffering of ordinary people caught in the conflagrations of war,” the group said in a statement.
