Officials say decentralization will provide faster, more efficient service Warwick - The Admissions Department at St. Anthony Hospital, currently next to the Emergency Room, will soon move to the larger area on the main floor that formerly housed the cafeteria. This will be the first phase of the building’s expansion that will ultimately see the emergency department double in size. The cafeteria moved to the lower level floor earlier this year. The new registration and admissions offices will now be adjacent to the hospital’s lobby immediately left of the main entrance. Patients requiring non-emergency same day surgery, radiology, pre-admission blood or other laboratory tests will also soon report here. Emergency patients, however, will continue to report to the same Emergency Department on the side of the hospital opposite the main entrance. Unless your illness requires you to be treated immediately, a triage nurse in that office will direct you to the Emergency Department registration area. The most seriously ill or severely injured patients are treated first. “We’re very excited about this,” said Marcie Scalza, supervisor of registration. “It’s a major change that will improve our efficiency and enhance the overall quality of care at St. Anthony Community Hospital.” Scalza explained that although emergency and out patient services will continue to remain on the same floor, there are numerous advantages to the decentralization of the admitting department. Patients requiring same day services, for example, will find that the larger and more comfortable registration offices provide faster services as well a greater degree of privacy. “Relocating and increasing space for our admitting function,” said Leah Cerkvenik, executive vice president/administrator of St. Anthony Community Hospital, “is another important step in our commitment to provide the most efficient quality service for the health and well being of everyone in our community.” St. Anthony Community Hospital, a member of the Bon Secours Charity Health System, is a non-profit hospital providing emergency, medical, surgical, obstetrical/gynecological acute care services to residents of southern Orange County and Sussex County, N.J.
