Gary Goldberg Financial Services (Suffern) vs. Schlesingers Steak House (New Windsor) Final score: Gary Goldberg Financial Services 3, Schlesinger’s Restaurant 3 It was quite an unusual start to an intense game on Sunday as Gary Goldberg Financial Services met Schlesingers Steak House. Sunday’s blustery weather turned into a downpour and eventually a warm evening. Cold and wet, Goldberg eagerly embraced the weather’s bizarre challenge. A few of Goldberg’s members decided to show their versatility by playing both offense and defense during the game. Annmarie Boffalo and Sarah Farina each had a goal while playing offense, and then played defense to ensure Schlesinger’s Steak House would not score. Jaime Pitingaro, Melinda MacDonald, and Tricia Kent cleverly set up the ball and took shots on goal. While Laura Farley did her famous Irish dancing around Schlesinger’s Steak defense to score one of her own. Joelle Walz, Jannine Barbosa, Lisa Jackson, Sue Lindsay, and Theresa Conlon challenged Schlesinger’s offense elbow to elbow to keep the score low. n Week 4 Saturday, Sept. 30 SKB Group Inc (Cornwall on Hudson) vs. Gary Goldberg Financial Services (Suffern) Final score: SKB Group Inc 7, Gary Goldberg Financial Services 2 On a beautiful brisk fall morning, the last day of September, Gary Goldberg Financial Services met SKB Group Inc. for an intense battle. The game got off to an incredible bang with SKB Group Inc. taking the lead. SKB Group Inc. tactfully maneuvered the ball around the field showing their ball skills. However, Goldberg pursued the ball relentlessly, turning the game into a ferocious battle. Melinda MacDonald continuously challenged SKB Group Inc’s defense until she was able to plant the ball in the goal. Tricia Kent showed her great determination and skills as she continuously took shots at the goal (and cross bar) until she scored. Jannine Barbosa, Joelle Walz, Melissa Shaw, Lisa Jackson, Sue Lindsay, and Theresa Conlon fought unremittingly but could not prevent the inevitable goals scored by SKB Group Inc. Goals for SKB were scored by Pattiann Randazzo, Stephanie Bliss (3), and Victoria Fleming (3). Goldberg’s Laura Farley tirelessly encouraged her team in the most enduring way but it was not enough. Jaime Pitingaro was diligent in gaining control of the ball and trying to maneuver around SKB when she was playing both offense and defense. Thanks go out to Janice Strobel for coaching that is, refereeing the teams on the field. n Pick-up games The league for Women’s Recreational Soccer in Washingtonville is hosting pick-up games every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m., ending Thursday, Oct. 26, at May’s Field in Washingtonville (located behind the Candle Store).
