Wildcats open football season Sept. 7 against traditional rival Goshen

WARWICK — The Warwick Wildcats will kick off the 2013 season against longtime rival Goshen on Saturday, Sept. 7, at C.J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen.
The Warwick Valley–Goshen football rival is the second longest in the state of New York, dating back to 1896 (Utica Proctor and Rome high schools began playing in 1894).
Warwick Valley has won the game 50 times, Goshen 46 times and there have been four ties. The game has not been played every year due to the schools not fielding teams during years in the early 1900’s. Most recently, a scheduling conflict diverted the game in 2010.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Free admission will be granted to anyone bringing a non–perishable food donation to the game to benefit both the Warwick and Goshen food pantries.
