Warwick - The Warwick Valley High School football team have selected four teammates as captains to carry on the responsibility of driving the direction of the football team through the 2006 season which officially began two weeks ago with the winter work - out program. The team selected: • Senior quarterback and defensive back Chris Meinhardt, who split time in the secondary his junior season. • Senior John Sala who, was a starter at linebacker for a defense that posted four shutouts in 2005. • Pat Sweeney, who started on the defensive line and will be the anchor of a tough group of young men competing for time on the lines. • Matt Stranski will round out the 2006 captains; he was the Wildcats’ leading tackler in 2006 and a part of the one-two rushing combination (with graduating senior Derek Hrinya) who combined for almost 2,000 yards on the ground in 2005. Successful programs thrive on strong leadership, built on the foundation of seniors and direction from the captains. The 2006 team has selected young men who possess all of the characteristics to drive the engine, “Tradition Never Graduates.” Greg Sirico is the Warwick Valley High School football coach.
