Wildcat hockey opens with win over W'ville
Warwick - The Warwick Valley Wildcats came away with a 3-1 victory over the Washingtonville Wizards last Saturday night before before a standing room crowd at Ice Time in Newburgh. After falling behind in the first period, Warwick player Luke Hagan scored the goal to tie it up 1-1. During the third period Warwick captain Ryan Durieux scored the game-winner on a power play. In the final minutes of the game the Wizards pulled their goalie and the Warwicks defense held the Wizards in check. With seconds left to go, Jason Maroni scored the final goal, making the final score 3-1 Warwick. The Warwick hockey club’s junior varsity also played their season opener that night against FDR. The first goal was scored by Jimmy Colgan during the second period, as did Matt Schenk. The last goal was scored unassited by John Hodgson with two minutes left in the game.
