The Warwick Boys and Girls Varsity Golf teams wrapped up their seasons and prepared to send two players to the State Championship Tournaments with a buffet provided by the Warwick Valley Country Club.
Girls Varsity
The 2019 Girls team went 6-4 in Division and 11-10 overall.
The girls team had 12 players this year. The returning players were sophomores Lian Walker and Morgan Sheridan, freshman Riley Dunleavy and 8th Grader Jillian Disy. New players this year were juniors Alyssa Disy, Maureen Byrne, Ruby Glynn, Gwen Haesche and Catherine King, freshmen Regina Frantzen and Erin Miller and 7th grader Gina Milazzo.
The top four players by scoring average were Gina Milazzo, Lian Walker, Riley Dunleavy and Jill Disy.
The girls placed third in a very difficult Division which included Section 9 Team Champions Goshen and a Minisink Valley team that ended Goshen’s 62-match unbeaten streak in a tri-match with Warwick at West Hills Golf Club.
The girls had an outstanding home season at the Warwick Valley Country Club, going 6-4 and shooting low scores of the season, both team and individually (39 by Milazzo twice).
Wounded Warrior Challenge
In the Wounded Warrior Challenge hosted by the Country Club, Rockland County Team Champions North Rockland defeated the Wildcats, but Milazzo won the individual total with a 39. Milazzo and Walker had the Wildcats only 3 strokes behind after the first group finished.
It was a great day as the boys defeated North Rockland helping Warwick Athletics defeat North Rockland Athletics for the first time in six years.
Lian Walker and Gina Milazzo qualified for the Girls Sectional meet at Apple Greens Golf Course in New Paltz. For Lian it is her second time qualifying for the tournament as only a sophomore.
Gina Milazzo
Gina posted an opening round 88 which put her in eighth place after the first day (nine qualify for the State Championship). On the second day she shot a 42 on the front 9, the second best score on the first 9, and finished with an 86 which moved her up to sixth place and a spot on the Section 9 Tournament team.
Gina will be participating in NYSPHSAA Golf Championship at Deerfield Country Club in Rochester from May 31 through June 2. Good luck, Gina.
Boys Varsity
The 2019 Boys team went undefeated this year (14-0) and won their second straight division title. In the last two years the boys have been on a roll, posting a 28-1 record in matches.
The boys team had 13 players this season. Returning players to the Wildcats were Luc Boudreau, Brendan Boudreau, Jack Landau, John Solari, Zechariah Janzen, Matt Amaturo, Ryan Ginley, Andrew Poje and Cody Sheridan. New additions this year were Drew Borner, Gavin Glynn, Tyler Desotle and Rob Cann.
Luc Boudreau
Luc Boudreau, Brendan Boudreau, John Solari, Jack Landau and Zechariah Janzen all qualified for the county tournament at West Point, which took place on May 13.
Both Boudreau brothers and John Solari survived the county tournament and advanced all the way to the final day of the Section IX Championship at Casperkill Country Club in Poughkeepsie.
Luc Boudreau will be representing the Wildcats at the N.Y.S. Golf Championships in Cornell this weekend. Good luck, Luc.
