Warwick Valley tops Washingtonville for fifth win

— The Warwick Valley Wildcats varsity football team defeated Washingtonville 38–25 last Friday night at Washingtonville, putting the Wildcats in the Max Prep New York State top 10 large schools in the state.

Highlights
The Wildcats were led by Brad Garcia who carried the ball 35 times for 441 yards and four touchdowns.

Senior running back Harley Rogers scored a touchdown and gained 115 yards on the ground.

Davis Brief kicked a 25-yard field goal and converted all five extra point attempts.

Special teams
For the second week in a row, Jack Kennedy recovered a crucial onside kick attempt late in the second half when the game was still in the balance.

Kennedy and the special teams have become one of the top units in the county.

Nigel Bey had three punt returns for over 40 yards total; John Santana started the game with a 34 yard kick–off return.

Defense
Led by defensive Captain AJ Sakac, the Wildcats put another win the in the win column. Sakac finished with 10 tackles while Michael Houlihan made seven from the linebacker position. Francis Nnamani contributed five tackles. Dermot Egan also had a big sack late in the second quarter.

Next
The Wildcat’s will take on another top 10 team in the state in the Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks and their highly touted offense on Friday night, Oct. 18, at C. A Morgan Field.

The home football game will also be the occasion for Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and purple.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
