Seven players to represent team in county championship Warwick - The final match of the season for the Warwick Valley High School Boys Golf team was played Monday against Goshen under cloudy skies and cold temperatures. That hardly deterred Jeff Smith, who continued his stellar play with a 2-under-par round of 34, nor the team, which shot 204. Goshen had to forfeit for lack of a full squad. Other scores for Warwick included Frank Mulzat (36), Steve Garby (42), Elliot Brooks (45) and Rich Lenihan (47). Smith’s score was his fourth sub-par round this season. The victory left Warwick with an 18-1 record (OCIAA 8-0) and the OCIAA Division II Championship for the fourth straight year. As a prelude, the golf team shot a school record 186 to defeat Pine Bush (229) at Warwick Valley Country Club the previous Thursday, May 11. Low man of the day was Smith, who carded a one-under-par 34. Rounding out the Warwick team was Tom Garby, Steve Garby, Nick Schiavo and Ryan Metzger, who each shot 38. Low score for Pine Bush was Mike Swift who shot a 41. On Wednesday, May 17, seven players will represent Warwick at the OCIAA County Championship. The top 30 players advance to the OCIAA sectional qualifying championship May 23.
