Warwick resident to be inducted into University of Scranton's Wall of Fame
Warwick Warwick resident Steve Daigle will be inducted into the University of Scranton’s Wall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the John J. Long Center in Scranton, Pa., in conjunction with the Royal’s men’s and women’s basketball games against Drew University. Founded in 1970, the Wall of Fame honors former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and community members who have been instrumental in the university’s athletics program. The university annually honors those who have distinguished themselves by induction to the wall, and this year’s class brings the wall’s membership to 183. Daigle established the Royals’ wrestling reputation in the Middle Atlantic Conference during his four-year career from 1985 through 1989. After a pair of third-place finishes in the 158-pound weight class in 1987 and 1988, he advanced to the championship match in 1989, only to lose to Mark Ambrose of Delaware Valley College. Daigle ended his career as the Royals’ all-time leader in wins with 53 and sixth in winning percentage (.801), to win the Frank O’Hara Award for athletic excellence, which is presented annually to the top male and female athlete of senior class. As a team, Scranton posted four winning seasons and an overall record of 40-26-2 (.603), including a university-best fourth-place finish at the 1988 MAC championships and a fifth-place showing under then head coach John Hopkins. A native of Allentown, Pa., and a graduate of Dieruff High School, Daigle holds a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice from the University of Scranton, a master of science degree in French literature from Binghamton University, and a master of business administration degree from Iona College. He is presently a compliance manager with Verizon Wireless. Steve and his wife, Liesel Fisher Daigle, reside in Warwick with their three children, Nicholas, Noah and Natalie.
