to gold in Empire Games Poughkeepsie - On Saturday, July 30, Warwick Valley High School senior Kyle Vander Plaat and junior, Frank Petrucci, rowed to a first place-victory in the Empire State Games' Junior Men's Open Double, with a time of 7:55 for the 2000 meter race held at Marist College in Poughkeepsie on the Hudson River. Both 17-year-old Vander Plaat and 16-year-old Petrucci are members of the Warwick Crew Club and the East Arm Rowing Club. EARC, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of rowing in the Hudson Valley region, also is the home of Warwick Valley High School rowing. The team practices on six-mile-long Greenwood Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Orange County and within just a few miles of the Appalachian Trail.
