Warwick Lions thank 5K sponsors

Warwick - The annual Warwick Lions Club 5K Sponsor Dinner was held on Oct. 19 at the Landmark Inn in Warwick to recognize the people and organizations who made the race a success. More than 700 runners participated in the 15th annual Warwick Lions 5K Race and Fun Run on Labor Day. Proceeds from the event primarily support the Lions Quest Program presently offered in the Warwick Schools. The Quest Program is integrated into the instructional program to enhance student self-esteem and to emphasize making good choices. “With a race of this size, we need the support of the Warwick business community,” said 5K race director George McManus. McManus also saluted the sponsors for their financial contributions and for their willingness to support a fund raiser that directly affects the healthy development of students at the K-12 level. Added Warwick Lions President Stuart Durland: “Without the support of our loyal sponsors and community volunteers, the Lions would not have the quality annual event that we now so appreciate.” The dinner concluded with Dr. MariJane Reinhard, the Warwick Valley School District’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, introducing Kings Elementary School Principal Sandra Wood, who led dinner participants in a Lions Quest Program Activity to demonstrate how students benefit from the program.
