Warwick football gridders sign letter of intent

Seniors Darcey and Wyler announce football commitments, By Gregory Sirico Warwick - After much attention, the stress of the recruiting process ends for two Warwick High School Football Standouts as Ryan Darcey and Evan Wyler have announce their college plans. Both seniors were heavily recruited and their contributions were a big part of the Wildcats consecutive league titles. Ryan Darcey will be wearing the maroon and black of Fordham University in the Bronx, where he will play defensive back for the Rams, competing in the Patriot League. The 6’1” 185 lb. Darcey was recruited by Tom Massella, who is in his first year as head coach at Fordham University with strong ties in the New York area. Massella said that he loved Darcey’s play-making ability, adding that he believes that Darcey will fit right in at the Division 1 AA football school. Darcey is one of 20 recruits that Fordham will bring in this season to take on a challenge schedule which includes Lehigh, Bucknell and Colgate. Darcey chose Fordham over Cornell and the University of Rochester. He is the son of Mike and Joyce Darcey of Warwick. His two brothers are former football players at Warwick: Phil, who graduates this spring from Manhattan, and Alex, who is playing football for the Ithaca Bombers in upstate New York. All three brothers were outstanding pole vaulters for the Warwick High Outdoor Track Team. Meanwhile, Evan Wyler will bring his 6’3” 223 lb.-frame to Cortland State which competes in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Wyler was heavily recruited by most of the division III schools in the Northeast for his athleticism. The senior defensive end was second on the Wildcats’ in sacks this season and competed for the basketball team, which made its fifth consecutive sectional appearance. Cortland Head Coach Dan McNeill described Wyler as “a special talent” who will compete for a spot on the varsity as a freshman. McNeill returns 19 starters to one of the top Division III programs in the Northeast. Wyler is the son of Wendy and Larry Wyler of Sugar Loaf. His brothers, Jeremy and Aaron, graduated class of 1999 from Warwick where they both competed for the football team. His sister Rachel graduated in 2001. Gregory Sirico is the football coach at Warwick Valley High School.
