Warwick football defeats Valley Central


MONTGOMERY — It took a goal line stand on a two point conversion attempt for the Warwick Valley Wildcats to hold off the Valley Central Vikings in a non–league victory last Friday, Sept. 7, at Viking Field in Montgomery.
DefenseWarwick’s Grant Dolshun, Trey Pinkham, Rob Maslanka and Dean Dulgerian met the Valley Central running back in the hole to finish the game and hold onto a 14-13 win.
Warwick’s defense was on it mark, holding the high-powered VC offense to 13 points.
The Wildcats were led by Matt Houlihan (11 tackles), Matt Hansen, Robert Maslanka (10 tackles each) and Nicky Garcia (7 tackles).
Offense Warwick’s Kyle Rooney and Joe Miller combined for the two touchdowns. Matt Meade was perfect 2 for 2 on extra point conversions.
Gregory Sirico converted a big third down with a 30-yard reception and Joey Fotino’s 30 yard-run put the Wildcats in scoring position.
The offensive line of Andre Ward, Nate Felix and company paced the way to more than 226 rushing yards.
Nicky Garcia also held onto an outside kick attempt to secure the win.
Hall of Fame inductions SaturdayThe Wildcats will try to stay perfect when they take on the FDR Presidents on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1:30 p.m.
Halftime will include the introduction of the Warwick Football Hall of Fame: Jose Guadalupe 68’, Jack DeGraw 68’ and Anthony Mann 92’.
