Warwick football defeats Minisink

SLATE HILL — The Warwick Valley football team defeated Minisink Valley in triple overtime on Slate Hill’s John Bell Field last Friday, Sept. 28.
Warwick QB Joseph Miller spun off Minisink defensive standouts tackle of both he and running back Kyle Rooney to cross goal line and earn a Wildcat triple overtime win.
A strong performance by Purple offensive lineman Andre Ward, Matt Space, Logan Hickey, Trey Pinkham, Nate Felix, Dan Rodriguez and Parker Kardell help the Cats rush for more than 250 yards on a rain-soaked field.
Touchdowns were scored by Joseph Miller (two) and Kyle Rooney (one).
The defense put together another stellar performance led by senior Nicky Garcia, whose one-handed interception was a highlight of the night.
Robert Maslanka contributed 12 tackles followed by Matt Hansen (ten), Nicky Garcia (seven) and Logan Schmalfuhs (nine).
Wildcats sacked the Minisink quarterback six times.
Patrick Tully, Sebastian Pelaez, Robert Maslanka, Trey Pinkham and William Noteboom all had at least one sack.
First-year kicker Matt Meade converted all extra point and nailed a 33-yard field goal in very challenging conditions in the second overtime.
Meade was just short on an NFL-length 44-yarder in first overtime.
Wildcats will take on the Goshen Gladiators on Friday, Oct. 5, at C. A Morgan Field beginning at 7 p.m.
Warwick will celebrate senior night and Youth Football Night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
