Warwick fire working on all cylinders

Warwick - The U12B Warwick Fire defeated the Rhinebeck Riot 5-1 in the Fire’s second game of season. Continuing a trend from last season, the Fire’s first goal was scored by Nick Blomfield on a pass from Philip Goska. Before the halftime whistle on a pass back from Blomfield, defender Brian McGovern, holding his position near the midline, saw a opening and launched the ball into the back of the Riot’s net. The Riot came on strong in the second half and kept keeper Matt Unick busy. He made repeated diving saves, but the Riot eventually got a shot past that was just out of the Unick’s reach. The Fire responded quickly and off a rebound shot by Nick Daigle, Brian Allan scored the first goal of what was to be a hat trick by the end of the game. A few minutes after the first Allan goal, there was a scramble in front of the Riot net. Virtually every Fire striker and mid-fielder had a foot on the ball, but on a deflection it was Allan again who tipped then ball past the Riot keeper. To round out the game on a clean pass from mid-fielder Michael Bedross, Allan saw another opportunity, maneuvered around the Riot defense and past the keeper to give the Fire a decisive 5-1 win. The Fire plays next Sunday at noon at Warwick Soccer Fields.
