Warwick - On Sunday, April 30, the Warwick Fire and Minisink met for the first time since Minisink spoiled the Fire’s 2005 spring season’s unbeaten record with a tie. On Sunday, Warwick came away the winner, giving them two wins on the season and one rain out. Minisink came onto the pitch and in the first five minutes of the game caught Fire’s keeper out too far from the net and scored the first goal of the game. A second goal in the next five minutes caught the Fire defense looking the other way and put the Fire down by two. Realizing they were losing before they had even warmed up, the Fire turned on the heat, keeping the ball in Minisink’s half, passing and pushing forward. Nick Blomfield made an attempt on goal, which was short, but the ball was booted in by Brian Allan who was covering the net. Then Phillip Goska kicked a high one over the keeper’s head, which Michael Bedross caught on the bounce and kicked in. Tying up the game, the Fire felt more secure and played their “game.” Seeing another opportunity with a wide open goal, Blomfield opened a lead with a third goal in the first half. The second half saw a lot of play on both sides of the pitch, but a corner kick by Bedross with a header by Blomfield was the closest to scoring either team came. The final score was 3-2 in favor of Warwick. Information for this piece was provided by provided by Pam Eigo.
