Warwick — Elise Matthews, an intern from New Castle, Indiana spent a few weeks at Winslow Therapeutic Center “Healing with Horses.” Elise is a Learning Disabilities Resource Teacher and Coordinator of Educational Research and Dissemination. She has been a teacher for 27 years and recently won a grant from Eli Lilly which allowed her to come to Winslow. Her reason for visiting Winslow was to fulfill her lifetime dream of becoming a Certified Riding Instructor and an Educational Consultant to Therapeutic Riding Centers. She will continue as a member of Winslow’s Advisory Board, which will further expand educational programs and links between the school’s educational needs and the benefits of learning while riding horses. Matthews said, “I chose Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center because it was listed as a premiere riding center, one of the best in the country, and my experience here has proven that to be very, very true. I am so impressed with the dedication of all staff and how hard they work overtime over 100% and the dedication that they have to their clients and the way the horses are treated. The love and the kindness and how the horses are as important as the clients are. The horses are also the clients. It’s a reciprocal relationship. I believe the horses are getting as much as the riders. I have learned a tremendous amount from the professionalism of the instructors and the presentation of lessons from an educator’s point of view.”
