Varsity softball season off to good start for Chester

    Chester —The following are the game summaries for the Chester Varsity Softball games played this week. Chester beats Fallsburg, April 25 The Chester Hambletonians defeated the Fallsburg Lady Comets by a score of 19 to 0 in an OCIAA division game played Tuesday afternoon in Fallsburg. The game was called after the fifth inning due to the 15 run rule. Kristin Jung and Krissy Vanbenscoten combined to pitch their second no hitter of the season. Vanbenscoten pitched 2 scoreless innings striking out 5 followed by Kristin Jung who pitched 3 shutout innings striking out 9. Kayla Cabacungan, Chester’s lead off batter went 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s. Amanda Benitez went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, Kristin Jung 2 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBI’s and Krissy Vanbenscoten 1 for 2 with a triple. Jessica Lakis, Katie Wile and Beth Pinsker each added a hit for Chester. This was Chester’s 4th Shut out of the year. Chester is 5-3 overall, 1-1 OCIAA. n Chester defeats Goshen, April 27 Chester defeated Goshen by a score of 2-0 in a varsity softball game played April 27 in Chester. Kristin Jung pitched 7 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 11, to give Chester its fourth consecutive shutout win, fifth of the season. Amanda McCarthy’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth drove in Brittney Clifford to put Chester ahead. Chester added another run in the bottom of the sixth when Clifford singled driving in Jung to give Chester a 2-run lead. Amanda Benitez doubled for Chester while Clifford, Jung, and McCarthy all added singles. Chester improves its record to 6-3 overall, 1-1 OCIAA. Chelsey Locattell and Taylor Siracusa singled for Goshen (2-5).
