Track and field standout Casey Burley named ‘Student–Athlete of the Week’

— Casey Burley has been selected as this week’s Warwick Valley High School “Student–Athlete of the Week” under the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

The track and field star is one of the top triple jump prospects in the state. This year the junior improved his triple jump by four feet from his sophomore season to record a top mark of 45 feet, one-half inches at the Armory Varsity Classic in New York City.

Casey placed 10th in New York State at the Track Championships at Cornell and is considered by many as one of the most explosive athletes in Section 9.

Casey and teammates Dan Kelly, Jordan Burton and Tom Reilly set the indoor track school record with a time of 3:24.52 at the Milrose Games this past February in the 4 by 400 meter relay. Casey’s 400 meter split was a blazing 51.7 seconds.

He excelled at the Penn State Track and Field Jump Camp this past summer and will be a well sought after senior student – athlete in 2014.

Casey is a solid student with an average of 88.6. He has taken Spanish 4 Honor and Advanced Placement United States History.

The young student-athlete would like to continue his education in the South and has an interest in competing in the Southeast Conference.

He is the son of Trina and Wes Burley of Warwick. His brother Camden is a 5th grader at Park Avenue Elementary and his sister Jaesyn is a member of the class of 2011.
