Warwick - Lacrosse, one of the fastest growing sports in America, is taking root in Warwick. Warwick youth lacrosse has sported boys’ teams for several years now with great success and last year, varsity teams were officially welcomed into the high school. The first year of girls’ varsity was a challenge because no youth program existed to develop players with game knowledge and skills. This is about to change. Warwick Youth Lacrosse is holding registration for its first youth team, targeting girls in grades 5-8 to start. Girls will learn the rules of the game and will play games against teams from surrounding areas. The existence of this team will help the high school program greatly as it will provide skilled players as future recruits. All girls in grades 5-8 are encouraged to register and to bring a friend. As this is a new program, organizers also are interested in recruiting community members with girls’ lacrosse knowledge to assist with the development of their program. Anyone with knowledge of the girl’s sport or those needing more information should contact Marybeth McMurray at marybet1@optonline.net.
