Warwick — It’s not something you see very often in youth sports — three teams from the same club making it to their championship game. But that’s what will happen Sunday when three Warwick youth football teams head to West Point to play in their age division’s Superbowl. “The youth football teams trained hard to achieve the ultimate goal of West Point,” said Mike Holt, president of the Warwick Youth Football League. “It is the hard practices, dedication, effort and pride that motivates our kids. It is also a reflection of the dedication, motivation and determination that our parents and coaches have for our youth players.” The Warwick Youth Football program is in its 11 year in the Orange County Youth Football League and has captured 11 Superbowl titles. The coaches and organizers would certainly like to add three more. In Division 1, the Warwick White team finished the season with a record of 6-2 and a four-way tie with Washingtonville, Minisink and Newburgh. This forced a round-robin playoff to see who would go to the championship game. Warwick lost the first game to Washingtonville, but defeated both Minisink teams, including Minisink White who finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record. Warwick handed Minisink its only loss of the season. “They played a tremendous game by knocking Minisink White out of the playoffs,” said Holt.  Finally, Warwick defeated Chester in the semi-final game, giving them the opportunity to face New Windsor at Michie Stadium at West Point on Sunday. In Division 2, Warwick White finished the regular season with a perfect record of 8-0. The team defeated both Cornwall Silver and Washingtonville in the playoffs to earn its spot in the Superbowl this Sunday. Division 4 Warwick Purple also had a perfect record of 8-0. Purple beat Valley Central in the first round of play-offs, then made easy work of the Washingtonville Wizards to advance to the Superbowl. They will meet the Wallkill Panthers at West Point on Sunday. Holt is proud of these kids, for their work on the field and their friendship off of it. “From day one they wanted to go all the way,” he said. “This team has molded into a huge family, not only do they play football, but they are friends off the field. It is the bonding and friendships that they will never forget and will cherish forever.” Holt invited the community to come and watch the kids at beautiful West Point this Sunday. “Win or lose at West Point,” he added, “we have already won and achieved our goal. They know that they are not only playing for the team but representing our Warwick community.” The Division 1 game between Warwick White and New Windsor begins at 11 a.m. Division 2 Warwick White meets Minisink at 1 p.m. Finally Division 4 Warwick Purple kicks off against Wallkill at 5 p.m. Use Stony Lonesome Gate at West Point and Parking Lot A.
