GOSHEN — The St. Stephen's seventh grade girls basketball team claimed its third consecutive Orange County Championship with a convincing 42-24 win over the St. Patrick's parish team at Burke Catholic High School in Goshen on Saturday, March 3.
The team, a group of young athletes who have been together for three years, now moves on to face the Rockland County champion, from St. Catharine's parish, on Sunday, March 11, at 3:30 p.m., at Coleman Catholic High School in Kingston.
The winner of that game moves on to the state championship on March 17 at Mount St. Michael in the Bronx.
The St. Stephen's girls are looking to capture their first state title after reaching the finals the previous two years.
The team also captured the Clark Winter Invitational Championship held in Clark, N.J., defeating Marlboro (N.J.) in the title game, 54-45.
