Central Valley - Registration is underway for the fifth annual Damian Meehan Memorial 5K Cross Country Run and Walk on Saturday, Sept. 9, in Central Valley. More than 300 runners and walkers participated in last year’s event. Meehan, who died in the World Trade Center terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001, created an aura of goodness, merriment and civility that endeared him to all that he met and touched during his 32 years on earth, according to information from his family. He is buried in St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman. Since the fund’s inception, $200,000 has been raised and invested to create scholarships. Last year, three Monroe-Woodbury High School graduates were among the six students who were awarded Meehan memorial scholarships. Pre-registration is available online at www.damianmeehan.org; registration on race day from 7:30-9:40 a.m.
