Elizabethtown, Kentucky — The Orange County Bombers traveled to the Kentucky youth nationals on July 5 and competed against teams from the American south and the Midwest.
The Bombers finished with a 6-2 record and went on to win the championship against the Tennessee Edge by a score of 16-7.
The pitching duties were shared by Olivia Martino and Etta Garofalo. Jazmin Mejia contributed in relief.
Etta Garofalo went 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA; Olivia Martino also finished with a 3-1 record and with a .065 ERA
For the week-long tournament the Bombers outscored their opponents 74-31 and were led by Alyssa Platero (.609 batting average), Jazmin Mejia (.542 average) and Etta Garofalo (.526. average).
Eva Garofalo, Ryin Perico, Kayla Gorman and Rylee Moore all batted over .400 for the trip.
The girls also competed in individual contests versus other girls in their division and won:
• Eva Garofalo: catcher's pop time - 2.1 seconds to second base;
• Alyssa Platero: winner of the home run derby;
• The Bombers also won the team Brugg Drill and velocity throw.
The team consists of 11 girls from 9 and 10 years old from Warwick, Goshen, Middletown and Chester.
Team is made up of Eva Garofalo, Etta Garofalo, Olivia Martino, Alyssa Platero, Rylee Moore, Kayla Gorman, Ryin Perico, Jessica Tudor, Anna Lawless, Jazmin Mejia and Alyssa Sarlo
The team is coached by Charlotte Garofalo, Jason Martino, Jason Moore and Joe Platero.
