Swimmer Devon Kenny named WVHS’s ‘Student-Athlete of the Week’

— Senior Devon Kenny has been selected as this week’s Warwick Valley High School’s “Student-Athlete of the Week” under the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

“Devon’s efforts in swimming are a great example of self-improvement,” Athletic Director Gregory Sirico said in his press release announcing the young athlete’s selection. “He cut 42 seconds off his 100-yard backstroke time set in his sophomore year, going from 1:46.5 to 1:04.7.”

His new mark is a school record for the event and qualified him for the Section 9 Championships next weekend at Valley Central.

Devon is in his third year on the team and serves the varsity as team captain where he sets a great example for the young swimmers to follow.

When he’s not in the pool, Devon is a member of the History Club and the Investment Club.

Devon also carries a 92.5 Grade Point Average and has been accepted at the University of Vermont and Binghamton. He is waiting to hear from University of Connecticut and Delaware. Once in college, he plans to study biology or engineering.

Devon has enrolled is challenging courses, including AP Government, AP Calculus, AP English Literature and Environmental Science for college credit.

The young man is the son of Sharon and Kevin Kenny of Warwick. His sister Helena is an eighth-grader and his youngest sister Nora is in second grade.
