SUNY Orange inducts six into Athletic Hall Of Fame

MIDDLETOWN — SUNY Orange held its second induction ceremony for the Colt Athletic Hall of Fame this past Saturday, adding six new members into the Hall of Fame that was established a year ago to honor the very finest athletes, coaches and administrators from the college’s athletics history.
The Class of 2013 included:
Achilles J. “Kelly” Rossi ‘53
Walter Cawein ‘57
Richard E. Morse ‘58
Susan Deer ‘71
John Scanlan ‘73
Lois Hayes ‘79
During their playing days, the six members of the Class of 2013 represented eight sports, including soccer, basketball, cross country and wrestling on the men’s side along with basketball, tennis, volleyball and softball for women.
Two of the inductees - Deer and Hayes - also coached the Colts’ women’s basketball squad at different times while Deer also served a stint as the college’s athletic director.
Among the inductees were one national champion, one all-American, one national Wrestler of the Year, a regional MVP, three all-region selections and three SUNY Orange Athletes of the Year.
As performers, this group set three college records and advanced to the national tournament in three different sports. The two coaches guided the Colts to numerous regional and national tournament appearances.
