FLORIDA-Most of last week’s soccer schedule was washed out, but both the Spartans and Lady Spartans managed to sneak in a win apiece. Last Tuesday, before the torrential rains settled in, the Lady Spartans traveled to reasonably dry Roscoe and came back from “Trouttown” with a 5-0 non-league win. No trout in the creel, but Theresa Space added to her “limit” with two more goals and one assist. Other goals were scored by Angela Flores, Jessica Hoare and Jillian Collova. Collova also registered one assist. The Lady Spartans are now 11-1 overall and 4-0 in Division play. The Spartans’ non-league game last Saturday against Chapel Field was played at the “Corn Field” under the first blue skies in a week. On a still rather damp field the Spartans slogged their way to a 5-0 first-half lead. In order, goals were scored by Bryan Folkl, Cory deJong, Folkl again, Rich Nozkowski and Dylan Gaucher. DeJong, Folkl, Nozkowski and Gaucher also registered assists. Ten minutes into the second half, the Lions capitalized on the dry end of the field to cut the lead to 5-1. That goal was offset by another goal by Folkl and another goal by Gaucher, making the final 7-1. The win leaves the Spartans at 10-0-2 overall and firmly entrenched in first place in Division V.
