Softball pitchers Sara Beck and Eleni Wechsler named Warwick Valley ‘Student-Athletes of the Week’

WARWICK — Sara Beck and Eleni Wechsler, members of the Lady Cats varsity softball team, have been named Warwick Valley High School “Student-Athletes of the Week” through the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

Sara, the senior softball standout, pitched the Lady Cats to their first victory of the year against Marlboro (5–3 win). She struck out seven batters.

Eleni, a junior, pitched a five-hitter against Kingston, striking out 7 and the scoring the winning run in the Lady Wildcats’ second victory of the season.

The team followed those performances by defeating S.S. Seward to go undefeated heading into the spring break.

Sara Beck Sara has had a tremendous senior year, going undefeated in the fall as a member of the varsity tennis team.

She is an excellent student carrying a 93.7 average and a class schedule that includes the college mathematics class through SUNY.

Sara is president of the Student Senate, co–editor of the yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society and a full-time year round travel softball player.

She has narrowed her college choices to Hunter College, Ramapo College and Fordham University.

Sara is the daughter of Diane and Richard Beck.

Eleni Wechsler Eleni had four hits against Seward, demonstrating that she has one of the top bats in Orange County and should be a player to watch for the next two seasons in Section 9 Softball.

She received the Varsity Softball Outstanding Player Award and highest batting average as a sophomore.

Eleni also is an excellent student, carrying a 97.8 average and is currently in the top 10 percent of her class. She is enrolled in a challenging course load including AP Biology, AP U.S. History and the college algebra class at SUNY Orange.

She is dedicated to the sport of softball, playing for the NJ Pride Travel Team.

Eleni is the daughter of Norman and Barbara Wechsler of Warwick.
