Sisters represent Warwick at state ski finals

WARWICK — Sisters Camille and Caroline Huey, members of the Warwick High School Ski Team, recently qualified as Section IX state finalists at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association downhill skiing finals which took place at Bristol Mountain in Canandaigua at the end of February.
Both the boys and girls high school ski teams from Warwick finished first this season in Section IX and sent representatives to the state finals.
Learning at Mt. Peter
Camille and Caroline are both students in the Warwick school system. Camille is in 10th grade at Warwick Valley High School, where she is a multi-term honor student; Caroline is in 8th grade at Warwick Valley Middle School. Both skied as varsity team members this year.
In Giant Slalom, Caroline finished 40th, with a combined time of 2:15.97. Camille finished 42nd, with a combined time of 2:16.80.
In Slalom, Caroline finished 36th, with a combined time of 1:51.64.
These times were out of a total field of the top 63 high school skiers from each high school skiing competition region in the state of New York.
Both girls learned to ski at Mt. Peter Ski Area in Warwick and raced for many years coached by their father and USSA coach Phil Godwin in the Mt. Peter USSA racing program. The competition was offered through the New Jersey Ski Racing Association (NJSRA).
During the 2010-2011 season, Caroline was the women’s New Jersey State NJSRA champion in her 11-12 age group.
More results
Meanwhile, Sabrina Easton anchored the girl’s squad, finishing 8th in Slalom with a combined 1:34.82, and then 5th in Giant Slalom with a combined 1:57.55.
These results helped ice a very successful year for the young girls team, which finished third place out of nine teams competing at the state level.
Competing for the Warwick boys squad were another set of Warwick siblings, brothers Hans and Vaughn Poelmann, who finished 21st and 45th respectively in Slalom. Vaughn finished 42nd in Giant Slalom.
Warwick’s Jack Pennington finished 33rd in Giant Slalom, and 40th in Slalom.
The Warwick boys finished eighth out of nine teams.
The girls team is coached by Elisse Schreiner; the boys team is coached by Matt Carcaterra.
