Seward's Lady Spartans open division play in fine fashion

FLORIDA-The Seward Lady Spartans opened Division V play last Tuesday in fine fashion. Playing at home, the Spartans were not very gracious hosts as they topped a very inexperienced Fallsburg squad 11-0. On Thursday at the Chester Academy, it was a different story but it had the same ending as Florida prevailed 2-0. Against Fallsburg Jillian Collova, Mallory Matuseski and Theresa Space each scored two goals to lead the Spartan charge. Five other players kicked in with a goal apiece: Patricia Collins, Kathleen Folkl, Michelle Dugan, Vivien Greiser and Janice Harter. Senior striker Space also contributed three assists. Dugan and Collova had two. Goalie Alina Greiser did not have to make a single save as her teammates kept the ball in Fallsburg's zone most of the game. The score in the Chester game was much closer, although several missed wide-open shots by the Spartans accounted for that seeming tight game. Space score both Seward goals in the first half, assisted by Kylie Burnside on the first and unassisted on the second. Those last two wins give the Lady Spartans a 4-0 overall record and a 2-0 record in division play.
