Ryosuke Kameyama qualifies for Empire State Games

    GOSHEN — On the weekend of June 9-10, Goshen High School student Ryosuke Kameyama competed in the Hudson Valley Swimming Qualifying Trials at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, to qualify for the 2006 Summer Empire State Games to be held from July 27 to 31 in Rochester. Kameyama competed in four trial events, and qualified to compete in three of the events at the Empire State Games. For the Men’s Open 200 Yard Individual Medley, he took first place and qualified for the finals. For the Men’s Open 200 Yard Freestyle, he took second place and qualified for the finals. For the Men’s Open 100 Yard Freestyle, he took first place and qualified for the finals. For the Men’s Open 50 Yard Freestyle, he took fourth place, and is expected to be compete in the finals, as a bonus event given to any qualifier. Last year, Kameyama won three bronze medals in the Men’s Open Individual Events, and one gold medal in the Men’s Open 400 Meter Free Relay. He hopes to be a member, and possibly anchor, of the relay team because of his performance in 100 Freestyle during the trial.
